This apple bread reminds me of something my Mom made when I was younger. It was one of my most favorite treats for breakfast was when my Mom would make an apple coffee cake. Oddly all of these years later I had kind of forgotten about it until I tried this recipe. I think the combination of the apples and crumb topping is what brought the memories back. My Mom usually made it a few times a year, but the times I remember the most were for Christmas morning. But don’t worry, with this recipe you can make it whenever you choose.
What Will I Need to Make this Apple Bread?
For the Crumb Topping, you will need both sugar and brown sugar, flour and unsalted butter which has been melted.
To make the apple bread you will need the following. Dry ingredients include flour, baking powder, kosher salt, sugar, and ground cinnamon. The wet ingredients are unsalted sweet cream butter which has been melted. Also, two large eggs, whole milk, pure vanilla, and one cup of peeled and chopped Granny Smith apples.
Is it Hard to Make this sweet Bread with Crumb Topping?
As I always say, no because if I can’t make it I am not going to ask you to try. The directions for the crumb topping are simple.
Using a small bowl, combine the sugar, brown sugar, and flour until combined. Mix in the melted butter until combined and clumping together. Set aside.
You will need to preheat the oven to 350 degrees and spray a 9×5 loaf pan with pam baking spray. Using a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt and cinnamon.
In another large bowl, whisk together the sugar, eggs, and melted butter until well combined. Add the milk and vanilla and whisk until combined.
Now add this mixture to the flour mixture and stir until just combined. Next fold in the chopped apples. Scoop the batter into the loaf pan.
Sprinkle the crumb topping on the batter, pressing it lightly into the batter.
Bake for 45-55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the loaf comes out clean. You will want to allow the bread to cool completely in the loaf pan. Then you can remove it, cut, and enjoy!
